Our Specialist Ear Wax Removal Services
At Ear Haven, we believe in providing a safe, comfortable, and tailored treatment experience. As a clinically trained mobile specialist, I come equipped to offer the two gold-standard methods of ear wax removal: Microsuction and Ear Irrigation.
During your initial consultation, I will carefully examine your ears and recommend the most suitable and safest technique for your specific type and severity of wax build-up. Photos will be taken before and after of your ear canal, which can be shared with your GP if required.
Ear microsuction – the safest and most precise method
Microsuction is widely considered the safest and most effective method of ear wax removal. It is a “dry” procedure performed under direct visual guidance using specialist illuminated equipment.
- How it works: A small, gentle suction device acts like a miniature vacuum cleaner to carefully ‘hoover’ the excess wax and debris out of the ear canal.
- Key Benefits:
- Direct Visualisation: I maintain a clear view of your ear canal and eardrum at all times, ensuring maximum safety and precision.
- Suitable for: Clients with perforated eardrums, a history of ear surgery, or those with hearing aids.
- No Water: No risk of introducing moisture that can lead to infection.
- What to expect: The procedure is quick, quiet (a gentle ‘wind’ or ‘suction’ noise is normal), and usually takes between 15-30 minutes for both ears.
Electronic ear irrigation – the gentle, low-pressure flush
Modern ear irrigation is a safe, gentle, and controlled upgrade from traditional ear syringing. It is often highly effective when ear wax has been softened properly.
- How it works: An electronic irrigator is used to introduce a low-pressure, controlled, body-temperature stream of warm water into the ear canal to gently soften and flush out the wax.
- Key Benefits:
- Gentle: The electronic device ensures the pressure is always regulated and safe.
- Comfortable: Many clients find the warm water sensation soothing.
- Highly Effective: Excellent for removing particularly soft or loose wax.
- Important Note (Pre-treatment): For a safe and successful irrigation treatment, it is essential that you apply olive oil drops (or an equivalent) 2-3 times daily for a minimum of 5-7 days prior to your appointment.
Safety and Contraindications – patient safety and when treatment may be contraindicated
Your safety is my top priority. Before any treatment, I conduct a full aural examination and take a detailed medical history. While both methods are highly safe, some conditions mean microsuction is the only option, or that no procedure can be performed.
Ear irrigation (flushing) MUST NOT be performed if you have a history of:
- A perforated (or damaged) eardrum.
- Recent middle ear infection (within the last 6 weeks).
- Recent ear surgery (within the last 18 months).
- Any discharge from the ear.
Please inform me during booking if you have any of these conditions, as we will use the microsuction method exclusively.
